just keep drawing

My family is camping, and I could not make it to join them this year.
I am really looking forward to seeing some of their photos though!  I had been planning to do a lot of sketching in all of the wonderful leisure time that camping affords ...
Instead, I will sketch from photos.  Any drawing is good practice you see :).
And this is how I like my sketchbooks to look:

This is the same drawing, photographed twice (i-phone photo)
I think I liked it better when it was just pen.
The values were added with copic markers - a couple of grey tones.

Portraiture ... an evolution towards digital

This is the drawing / painting with photo reference right next to it. I began with a sketch (pen) in my sketchbook, and then used Copic marker to add skin tones and shadows (colour).

Then I scanned the drawing and brought it into SAI, and added the darker values of the background (and shirt).  I really love the flexibility and accuracy that I can achieve using a combination of both traditional and digital media :).

Jodi - full portrait

Well, it's still just a sketch, but this is the full portrait.

Pencil on cardstock seemed like a good idea at first, but the surface ended up being far too smooth for the deep textured look that I prefer in portraits. I am looking forward to getting some good Stonehenge and trying again.
This is Jodi. She is someone who has inspired me to work hard at becoming strong, and to begin to find my way past the safe and conservative social limits I have always placed on myself. I respect her a great deal :).

I am determined to get this one right ...

This is a cropped version of the full portrait.

Alecia Moore - a sketch

I have recently discovered P!nk.
I love her music and her attitude.

This is a sketch from my sketchbook. It is done with pen and marker, just like the previous portrait :).

Demo Reel 2009

I've put together an almost five minute demo reel.
I'll be working on finding a way to reduce the file size of this reel (and the running time as well).

This reel begins with the most recent work I've done (at March Entertainment) and ends with some flat work and my contact information.
